The Sorek neighborhood is also known as Mishkenot Yaakov, an ultra orthodox area. It runs from the Ayalon Park at the top of the Rama down to the town Center. Sorek is famous for the many Shuls and communities within its borders. Sorek is also home to the "Mercaz", the main shopping center of Ramat Bet Shemesh Aleph. Here you will find supermarkets, bakeries, banks, restaurants, specialty stores and medical centers. The Sun Hills project on Shacham is the newest addition to the Sorek area. The main Shuls and communities in this neighborhood are Kehillot Yaakov, Shevet HaLevi, a Chassidish institution, and Bnei Yeshivot, which caters to many families from abroad who are usually learning full time. Another popular street is Nachal Lachish, which hosts several Shuls and communities, one of which is Meam Loez, the first English speaking community for Sefardim. Ahavat Shalom is another community that is renowned for its special learning program for the working man. Kishon leads from Sorek to Ramat Beit Shemesh Bet, an area primarily populated by Chasiddim.
